Trauma-Informed Strategies for Public Group Classes
Friday June 13, 2025 8:00am - 9:30am EDT
Are you a yoga teacher interested in working with populations who have experienced trauma?

Have you ever felt worried you might "trigger" a student by saying or cueing the wrong thing?

Specialized "trauma-informed" yoga classes can offer those who've experienced trauma with the tools to support healing and post-traumatic growth.

But what can teachers who don't have this specialized training do in their general group classes to create a safe and supportive environment for anyone who walks through the door?

In this workshop, Lauren Turner calls upon her experience working with Veterans and First Responders to share key strategies for how to incorporate trauma-informed principles into general group classes.

What we'll cover:
  • A shared definition of what "trauma-informed yoga" is
  • An overview of the anatomy of stress and the relationship between yoga & PTSD
  • Outline the differences between a "trauma-informed" yoga class and a general group class
  • Identify key principles when working with those who experience trauma and discuss how best to incorporate into a public class setting
  • Discuss strategies to promote safety in public group classes
  • Work as a group to share specific examples of how these strategies can show up in our teaching
The goal of this workshop is to increase the confidence of yoga instructors working in public group settings and give them tools to support their students.

The session is not designed to be a replacement for trauma-informed yoga techniques. It may however serve as a stepping stone for those who are interested in continued education in the topic.

The session will combine lecture (60%) with group discussion (40%)

Psoas It Is
Friday June 13, 2025 2:00pm - 5:00pm EDT
The psoas muscle—arguably the most important muscle in the body—plays a pivotal role in physical and emotional wellbeing, yet it is one of the most overlooked muscles. This deep-seated muscle connects the upper and lower body, influencing posture, breath, and overall stability. But beyond the physical “fight-or-flight” muscle, the psoas is also a reservoir for unprocessed stress and tension, impacting our mental and emotional state.
Join Kari, a renowned yoga therapist and anatomy teacher trainer, for an in-depth exploration of the psoas in this. interactive workshop designed to deepen your understanding and connection with this powerful core muscle. You will:
  • Discover the anatomy, function, and energetic importance of the psoas.
  • Learn gentle release techniques to support tension relief and nervous system balance.
  • Find out why most yoga poses don’t address root cause of psoas dysfunction.
  • Practice a curated sequence of yoga postures and somatic movements to engage and strengthen the psoas.
  • Explore breathwork that supports psoas release and connection to the parasympathetic nervous system.
  • Gain insights into how the health of your psoas affects emotional resilience, posture, and freedom of movement.
This workshop is designed to be inclusive and is suitable for all levels. It's ideal for those who experience lower back discomfort, tight hips, or a feeling of "stuckness" in the body. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner, a yoga teacher wanting to gain knowledge and serve your students better, or just starting your journey, this workshop offers a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection through the psoas and how to gain freedom in the hips and low back.
Come prepared to move, breathe, and release. Unlock a greater sense of ease and freedom within your body and discover how connecting with the psoas can bring you home to yourself.
