Jyll Hubbard-Salk has been a yoga teacher for nearly 30 years and is the founder of Urban Asanas, a yoga and wellness studio located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, that is committed to bringing diversity into the yoga community. Always willing and wanting to support, Jyll has cultivated a space for other skilled yoga instructors who share her passion for helping people develop and implement self-care practices. Urban Asanas is a space where a wide variety of yoga styles and techniques are shared as well other wellness modalities such as acupuncture. Everyone who steps into her studio feels welcomed, supported, and part of a vibrant, inclusive community.
Jyll’s classes are designed for people of all backgrounds, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or financial situation, providing a safe and open environment for individuals to explore their mind, body, and spirit. She fosters a sense of empowerment and connection, encouraging others to prioritize their well-being and personal growth. Her teaching philosophy, encapsulated in her motto "Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready," reflects her commitment to helping individuals become the best versions of themselves as they embark on their journey of self-improvement and fulfillment.
A devoted wife and mother, Jyll draws inspiration from her children—Sierra, Cypress, and Indigo—whom she considers her greatest teacher. She is also inspired by her students, whom she shares empowers her drive to go harder. Her teaching experience ranges from working with youths to senior citizens across New York City and surrounding states, in schools, community organizations, charities, sports clubs, and through private instruction. Jyll’s transformative yoga retreats have taken her to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Ghana, where she has made a lasting impact.In addition to being a certified Thai Yoga and Reiki practitioner and doula, Jyll is dedicated to teaching the healing power of breathwork and meditation. Her transformative energy continues to uplift and inspire all who cross her path.
